POSITION TITLE:

RN- Staff Nurse – Emergency Department

JOB SUMMARY:

A staff registered nurse is a professional registered nurse who directs and/or provides nursing care, within the Emergency Department, for patients with chronic, acute and/or terminal illnesses. The RN will be responsible for triaging patients to determine the priority of care based on physical and psychosocial needs, as well as factors influencing patient flow thru the department. Communicates with ED provider regarding changes in patient’s status, symptoms, and result of diagnostic studies. Responds quickly and accurately to changes in condition or response to treatment. Participation includes interdisciplinary team, committees, education and the supervision of other staff/students.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

Graduate of accredited school of professional nursing

Currently licensed to practice as a professional registered nurse in the state of Missouri.

This individual should be knowledgeable regarding growth and development and to assess the physical and psychological needs of patients in the following stages of life: neonatal, infant, pediatric, adolescents, adults, and geriatric.

Current BLS required

Current ACLS required

Current TNCC, ENPC, or PALS recommended

Maintains regular and predictable attendance

RELATIONSHIPS: Reports to the Director of Emergency Services. Also reports clinically during designated shifts to the Charge Nurse.

CORE DEPARTMENTAL COMPETENCIES--

Demonstrates appropriate assessment and knowledge of critically ill patients.

Demonstrates the ability to assist providers with procedures such as but not limited to: conscious sedation, central lines, rapid sequence intubation etc.

Implements patient care according to planned interventions to attain

the patient’s optimal level of function and documents according to policy.

Demonstrates positive customer service relations

Routinely participates in QI projects and encourages department to continuously improve

Assists co-workers as needed/requested

Supports the Medical Center’s Mission/Vision/Philosophy positively
